ZAGREB BOOK FESTIVAL - Austria - fragility

Three years ago, guided by the idea that art, culture and, above all, literature should be available to all citizens, in order to ultimately contribute to the creation of a responsible, conscious and free-thinking society, we launched a festival that aims to bring culture closer to the public. With the desire to present a different country as our partner every year, this year, due to the inevitable common historical heritage, exceptional cultural and social influence and a strong art scene that best combines traditional and modern, we will present Austria, especially bearing in mind the fact that 2017 declared the Year of Austrian-Croatian Cultural Cooperation. In order to bring Austrian literature, film, music and the social climate closer to the Croatian audience through current and important topics, we chose the theme of the Festival - fragility - believing that it, in today's world of instability and uncertainty, occupies a key place in the works of many artists. as in the lives of all of us. This new concept of the Festival, which will contribute to the reflection of today through works of art and conversations with some of the most important European intellectuals, will be reflected in evening discussions about our daily fragility - equality, social systems, dialogue on values, freedom of speech, virtual identities and others. Bearing in mind that it is crucial to adopt curiosity, reflection and responsibility as early as possible, the first part of each day will be dedicated to the youngest. In addition to the literary program, this year, in an even richer edition, we will have the opportunity to enjoy a live music program and contemporary films that have already become a traditional program of the Zagreb Book Festival. At a time when most communication takes place through a variety of digital platforms, the tangible physical experience of the festival is becoming increasingly important. The festival becomes a meeting place for people of similar interests and values, writers with the audience, a platform within which experiences are shared and within which the interest in literature, books and reading deepens and expands.
